I'm currently doing assignment 3 of the TEFL academy course.

I am required to plan a 50 minute grammar lesson to introduce the past continuous to describe interupted actions in the past. The class are A2 monolingual learners aged 14-16 years old.

I have to use a standard PPP procedure and make it engaging to interest teenagers.

I'm really struggling to think of an appropriate context to present the target language with which I can use for later activities. Nothing seems to work! I was going to tell a story about how I was planning a party for the class and was making them a cake but the cake was stolen using example sentences such as:

Joey was sleeping when the cake disappeared.
Phoebe was playing guitar when the cake disappeared.
Monica was cooking when the cake disappeared.

But after doing loads of work on it I've realised that's not really an interrupted action but more of a simultaneous one because they could carry on sleeping/cooking etc so I've done it all wrong!

Any ideas on a suitable presentation context? I haven't got much time left and am stressing a lot right now!

    Hello Jess,
I am doing the same course and currently doing the same assignment! I imagine you have finished it now but just wanted to let you now that I had the same confusion!
I did some more reading and realised that it doesn't matter if the action in progress stops or continues. I hope you didn't scrap your work!
I have found this course a real struggle and wonder if it's just me!!!
I would love to now how you got on.
    kind regards

Just when I was at my wits end with this assignment, I see others have gone before me; a small comfort.
I am really struggling to get this assignment finished.
Even the most basic task within it feels like a complete curve-ball.
Like the Warmer: "A fun interactive activity, usually related to the rest of the lesson in some way. Typically introduces the topic to be used as the context in the presentation" I tried adapting an activity I saw online involving balloons with sentences containing the target language (past cont.) cut up inside them, with the students split into groups having to race to burst the balloons and make the sentences. Thought I'd finally broken through the block wondering 'What the **** am I going to do for the warmer?!'
But the more I look at it and the description of the warmer, I feel as though I am way off track.
Or the Presentation. How does one elicit the Past Continuous? Or the Pronunciation? Just the entire thing is stressing me out to no end.
I know I may be coming off as totally dense but I just don't know where to begin with this assignment. I'm not looking for a free lesson plan or anything else off the check-list, but Any guidance to help me get this course Finally done would be very much appreciated.

Have a look at this post on lesson planning

    Hi guys

I would have a look at this post on lesson planning:

    https://www.eslbase.com/tefl-a-z/lesson-planning

It goes step by step into planning a PPP lesson, which might help. It's not for past continuous, but the principles are exactly the same…

    Im experiencing same issue

Hey Guys. I have been struggling with the same issue for about a week now and I'm still trying to figure out what context would be best to elicit the Target Language from the students.

I mailed the TEFL Tutor (yip, we have access to this) and they recommend we look at the context not as a 'TEXT' necessarily.

She suggested instead of looking for a suitable text, we should, instead try and find a suitable topic/situation.

So rather than looking for a text in which examples of Past Continuous are given, create a situation (through images, videos, actions) describing a situation you could use to elicit the Past Continuous tense from the class.

I hope this kinda helped. Eased my mind a little.

If not, feel free to mail level5tutorsupport@theteflacademy.com with any further concerns regarding this Assignment.

Hang in there Guys! We are ALMOST AT THE FINISH LINE!!! :)

    Hello everyone,
I hope you are doing good and staying safe. Was just going through some ideas on this very same assignment and bumped into this post. Is it possible for any of you to help me with this PPP lesson plan for Past Continuous interrupted tense? Would be nice if someone could share their lessons for me to get an idea how to go about it.
It would be great help. Thanks.

    Having Trouble Too

Yeah I am also in the same boat. It makes me feel better I am not alone. I thought maybe I am not smart enough to teach.

My first try in turning in the assignment was failed. They said I had some good ideas but there were still lots of issues
