If Walmart Wont Hire Me Due to Past Walkouts

Alistair has worked in a diverseness of positions at Walmart over the course of v years.

A lot of job seekers look to Walmart for employment, but working for America's favorite mass-scale retailer is not all it's cracked up to be.

A lot of job seekers look to Walmart for employment, but working for America's favorite mass-scale retailer is not all it'due south cracked up to be.

Is Walmart a Good Place to Work?

If you're seeking employment, you may be considering applying for one of the many positions bachelor through Walmart. Their retail stores are huge, and they take locations all over the place, so it seems like as good a identify as any to look for piece of work. Unfortunately for many starry-eyed job seekers, working at Walmart doesn't often turn out to be a particularly pleasant or rewarding experience.

From poor healthcare benefits to hr-cutting, I'll give you the inside scoop as to why working for one of the nation's largest retailers is a bad move both personally and professionally.

My Experience Working at Walmart

I'thou 23, and I've worked for Walmart on three separate occasions, doing many different jobs in the course of v years. These are the master positions I've held:

  • Overnight Stocker (8 Months)
  • Overnight Inventory Managing director (7 months)
  • Cart Pusher (2 years)
  • Electronics Associate/Cell Phone Salesperson (iii months)
  • Optician/Vision Center Acquaintance (7 months)

And then yeah, I've worked a range of jobs and spent a inexplainable amount of time in and around Walmart over the years. Luckily, I never take to become back to that dreaded land of awfulness again, and I'm hoping this article can salvage some innocent folks from making the same mistakes I did.

Some of the downsides discussed in this article may apply to other retail jobs equally well, but I'yard speaking specifically nigh Walmart, as that's where my experience lies. Beneath are the four main reasons why you shouldn't work for Walmart. Each of these is discussed in greater detail in the sections that follow. A note on Walmart managers and an FAQ section are provided every bit well.

four Reasons Not to Get a Task at Walmart

  1. They offer employees terrible healthcare plans.
  2. They cut employee hours to go on them part-time.
  3. They mess with consumers psychologically.
  4. They care for their employees poorly.
While Walmart has changed its look and branding over the years, its poor treatment of employees has remained the same.

While Walmart has changed its look and branding over the years, its poor treatment of employees has remained the same.

i. They Offer Employees Terrible Healthcare Plans

Walmart offers some of the worst healthcare plans I've ever seen. Some would say that they're better than nothing, only I disagree. I paid for the all-time plan and had 71 dollars come out of every check, but when I went to the md, I however had a mount of a deductible to conquer. There are no co-pay plans to be establish, and the co-insurance was always eighty/20 later the deductible, which made striking your out-of-pocket maximum like climbing Mount Everest.

Employee Health Insurance vs. Private Wellness Insurance

I had their insurance on 2 separate occasions. One was on the "depression deductible, high premium" programme, and the other was on the "high deductible, low premium" plan. My claims were denied for no apparent reason past the insurance underwriter, who was incredibly hard to make it contact with.

So, I simply dropped Walmart's goofy plans and got a personal programme from United Healthcare, and voila—I have a $25 co-pay for all doctor and therapy visits, and a deductible that is manageable. Oh, and they pay 100% after the deductible. This all costs less than I was paying for my Walmart plans.

The plans have gone upwardly every year in price while going downwards in quality. And don't even think nearly blaming Obamacare for that—other companies haven't responded this fashion.

The Healthcare Waiting Period

The company has begun to impede new hires with a waiting period of 1 twelvemonth earlier they can fifty-fifty go Walmart'south health insurance. This may really be a good thing. There'southward then much wrong with the healthcare offered by Walmart that I genuinely feel sorry for whatever employee that is stuck in a 1-twelvemonth commitment with them.

The way their "open up enrollment" works is that you take a i-month window each year (new hires are nearly always hired to miss this window) to plan out your side by side year's healthcare needs. You tin't alter these choices in one case the window passes, and you're locked in for an entire yr. Only massive life changes (like dying) can go them to change your benefits when it'due south not "open enrollment" time. Super bogus.

2. They Cut Employee Hours to Keep Them Part-Time

Back when I first started, I was a full-time worker and got my forty hours a week, and while it was 3rd-shift menial labor (stocking), it was a solid paycheck. I was cool with that. Just as the years rolled on, Walmart found that hiring ii office-time workers instead of one full-time worker is much more profitable because they tin can deny benefits to any part-time worker and cutting that person's hours to zero if they feel like it. They have washed that to me, and they will do that to you if y'all work for them.

The Dangers of Being Full-Fourth dimension

If you are one of those few people who has total-time condition, watch your back. They're gunning for you. They're looking for means to get you to either step downwardly to part-fourth dimension or quit entirely since y'all're not only reaping the benefits of having been at that place for a long time (oh my, a few more dollars an hour!), but y'all're also consistently getting about twice the hours of anyone else.

Employee Surveilance

I've talked with the loss prevention associates and have friends in places that take access to information that I clearly am not supposed to know, so I know stuff like this was happening. They were keeping cameras on total-time associates and watching their clock-in and clock-out habits for any possible reason to trip them up. Sometimes, word fabricated its way to a detail employee, and they fussed and fumed, and yes—they got a coaching for poor performance in return.

Manager Intervention

Another fashion they try to "fume out" the veterans of the company is by dropping their hours below the designated minimum that was established way back when just to annoy them. The minimum number of hours a total-time employee is supposed to receive is 35, and the maximum number a part-fourth dimension employee may receive is 33.

I've seen a director requite a full-fourth dimension associate 28 hours and a part-time associate 32 hours merely to send a passive-ambitious message that while there are "rules" at Walmart, decisions are fabricated based on conspiracy and gossip instead of information technology being a "family" or "squad" like their propaganda would have you believe.

The way Walmart's stores are laid out is no accident.

The way Walmart's stores are laid out is no blow.

3. They Mess With Consumers Psychologically

This comes straight from the mouth of my most recent shop manager, Tom.

"You know why nosotros sell everything for cheap? You know why we say: 'Salvage money. Live better?' Information technology's because nosotros want our customers to take the money they hither and buy more of our shit. Simple equally that. The more than we sell, the higher our volume. Even if we make razor-thin profits, the more than money we make, and the more repeat customers nosotros make, and the more we rule the marketplace. Notice, our stock doesn't ascent by dollars; information technology rises by a trickle of cents over years, slowly creeping higher and higher. That'due south how nosotros do things, and when you make the customers buy more stuff—when you make full their cart up—that'southward how you lot secure your job, and that'south how you lot secure your company'due south future for years to come up."

I wasn't surprised at the content of his bulletin because I'd known all of this before; I was simply astounded that he was and then flippant about it. We were perpetuating a cycle of tricking consumers into buying substandard crap with substandard service considering our prices were lower than everyone else'south. This is however the way information technology works.

Greeters and Carts

It's the niggling things. When the greeters offering y'all a cart, it'south supposed to make you lot think, "Oh wow, I feel welcome here. Thank you!" but the true intention is to ready y'all up to overspend. That'south what a shopping cart is to a consumer. If they don't accept a cart, they can't buy as much. When they have a cart, they feel indebted somehow to themself and the store to at least fill it upwardly before leaving.

It's a psychological trick that is non but underhanded, but it'due south also one that I participated in for years unknowingly. As a cart-pusher, I gave customers carts constantly. I didn't realize I was participating in the consumerism cycle.

Product Placement

They put things in certain places for a reason. That's why they remodel the stores every few years; new statistics give them new data that shows them how to make the well-nigh revenue via the layout of the store.

Essential items are located in the back of the shop—ever. Stuff you don't need is off to the side and there for yous whenever you feel similar splurging, but the existent stuff—like food, milk, toilet newspaper, the chemist's, and the rest of the essentials—is in the back of the store.

Okay, so what, it's only a matter of a hundred feet, right? Wrong. There are what they telephone call "features" in the heart of the aisles that are unremarkably in accordance with any is seasonal. Football flavour has soda, chips, beer, and junk food. Valentine'southward Day has flowers, chocolates, etc. These features are all throughout the store and are meant to entice you into dropping them into your cart.

The "Oh, Shiny!" Effect

Whenever you walk into the general merchandise entrance of the store, the starting time thing you encounter is not the random seasonal purchase features around you, but the very dorsum of the store directly ahead. Y'all see the 70-inch LED televisions on the wall playing any random loop they take gear up.

The consumer's buying urge is set up off like a drug addict when he or she sees fresh product lying on the table. They know they don't need information technology. They know they already have a adept TV. Just await how shiny it is. They must become and investigate. So they exercise, and while they're dorsum in that location, they end upward buying a new Blu-ray player, an HDMI cable, and a bottom, but still shiny tv set that the associate working dorsum at that place talked them into (I worked that job, and then I know how that goes.).

The electronics section is the well-nigh profitable place in the store, and yet it is in the back. Why? Because by the fourth dimension y'all brand information technology to the electronics department, you lot've already picked upward several things yous don't need and several things y'all do demand. You lot're already exasperated by your trip to Walmart, and this refreshing land of movies, games, and everything you love sounds like a good idea . . . until you lot walk into the lion's den named Credit Menu Country—which brings me to a betoken that needs to be made.

Walmart Credit Cards

Yes, every retail store is required to push its retail credit cards. Simply what gimmicks does Walmart utilize to sell these? Wordplay. In the Vision Center, we were the all-time at selling credit cards because nosotros had more time with the customer than any of the other cashiers in the store. We had more time to mess with the customer'southward listen.

I told my manager (who hated me) that I would not partake in such fraudulent activities. She said I had no option, and it was a command. Yes, I received a "coaching," which is like a demerit. These stack up, and if you get iii or four of them, you're fired. I received this coaching for non wanting to disillusion the customers that we're supposed to be serving. I was incredulous!

And so, how do they try to deceive customers into getting the carte du jour?

  • Provide as piffling information about what the bill of fare is as possible.
  • Tell them they're "pre-qualified," which they will take to mean "pre-approved."
  • Tell them that anybody they've seen gets approved, and it merely takes a infinitesimal.
  • Tell them that they can spend their new card today to brand even more than and meliorate purchases (similar better eyeglass lenses) since they have a new source of credit.

Every time one of these drug-deals went downwards, I cringed and held back my fury. My director loved it. She was a sociopath, merely to me, information technology seemed like casting out a pole into fresh waters. When you catch the biggest bass in the waters, you talk it into buying a credit card. Information technology makes no sense. They're already screwed by existence there in the commencement place, and then why do we have to screw them more? It makes me angry just thinking about it.

The "Site-to-Store" Option

Walmart messes with consumers in other means, besides. Another is the "site-to-store" option. Y'all order a product online, and you don't accept to pay shipping since it goes to the store.

Where practice you selection it upwardly? No, there's no drive-thru or load-upwards choice. You accept to walk to the very back of the store and hunt for someone to get the product you ordered. Information technology's usually the photo lab associate who is currently dealing with a line of customers, then you have to wait, and wait, and . . . oh look, you're in the electronics section! How did you get at that place? Well . . . might as well look around.

Are you getting the picture?

4. They Care for Their Employees Poorly

Then, nosotros've covered Walmart's bogus healthcare, part-time/full-time schemes, and management conspiracies . . . merely there's more. They set goals that are unreachable then that they simply take to give out the blank minimum in terms of raises each year, and they tin can cull to not give employees heighten at all.

Unrealistic Expectations

To receive the full raise (which I accept), you have to literally sell your soul to Walmart, work every 24-hour interval like it's your concluding day (which I did), lie to every director (play the game), work in equally many different areas of the store every bit possible, and option up actress shifts from other people in the shop that are ill or otherwise can't make information technology.

Keeping up this lifestyle is not only taxing, just information technology'southward likewise unhealthy. Eventually, you lot're going to fire out equally I did. So, they'll ask, "Why has your performance dropped?" I had to tell them that I'm non a superhero, I practice become tired now and again, and, well, living at Walmart all calendar week takes its toll on your sanity over the years.

Unethical Terminations

They reserve the correct to utilize any possible reason in their playbook to fire you. For case, let's say you are the store's top salesperson and become along with your coworkers, simply you had to miss a month of work due to mental disease. Your boss uses a fault you made out of homo fault to non simply fire you after you were on unpaid leave for a calendar month only as well writes upwards the termination so that you won't receive whatsoever unemployment benefits.

They shuffle you similar a drunken human being's deck. If yous work within the store, you lot are bailiwick to being thrown wherever the managers see fit, regardless of whether you take proficiency in that area or are nonetheless in training in the process necessary to succeed. And when yous neglect or get a customer complaint, the manager but asks, "Why didn't you lot handle that amend?"

I could continue forever.

Everything You Need to Know About Walmart Managers

The get-go matter I will say is that Walmart managers are the people you should pity the most. They are the ones who have had their souls ground into grit and then sucked up into the vacuum of the Evil Empire. They no longer have souls, and therefore, they tin manage new hires and veterans alike.

Oftentimes, the managers come from nowhere. They literally pop up one day, and so they're your boss. I asked i of these managers (he was a co-director who appeared out of thin air; Antwan was his name), "Who are y'all? You just show up out of nowhere and await people to listen to you?"

He said, "I'm Antwan, and I'chiliad your boss, and I need y'all to do this, this, and that, and report back to me in an hr. Got information technology?"

I but stood at that place. "We're both humans, that much I can deem. But it seems like you think you lot've go a God or something. What is that?"

He got angry and walked off. He didn't arroyo me for a few weeks after that, and in the meantime, he just watched me exercise my piece of work from afar. He saw that I was a highly motivated worker who did things the nearly efficient style. He gained respect for me despite my blasphemous statements. And and so he started ordering me around once again.

I said, "Look, Antwan, right? I know you desire to be superlative-domestic dog, alpha-male, and that's absurd, just tin y'all exercise information technology elsewhere?"

He wrote me up. I don't blame him. I was sick of new faces popping out of thin air and ordering me around like I was some meat-puppet. That's how the managers learn to care for anybody—like they're but warm bodies incapable of doing anything on their own. That's why the management position exists in the commencement place, I suppose.

Not all managers are evil, simply all managers are stressed. And a stressed manager is cranky. And a cranky manager is hard to live with. They make your life suck considering their life sucks. It's a terrible trickle-downwardly result that people looking to apply at Walmart merely don't know about. If simply they knew . . .

Ofttimes-Asked Questions About Working at Walmart

Below are some of the most common questions I hear from Walmart employees and people who are thinking about applying. Things do vary both over time and from shop to store, so some of the answers provided below may non be accurate in all cases.

What Are "Occurrences" (Points) and How Many Are Employees Immune?

At Walmart, employees can exist terminated for accumulating occurrences, or points. Think of these like points on a commuter's license. Showing up late to work might be worth half a point. Missing a shift later on notifying your managing director might be worth a whole indicate. Missing a shift without notifying your manager might land you lot ii points (or occurrences).

Generally, newer employees who have been with the company for six months or fewer will exist terminated after four points/occurrences. More tenured employees may accumulate up to nine occurrences before termination.

How Long Do You Have to Piece of work at Walmart to Transfer?

Normally, employees must have worked at a Walmart for at least six months before they can use for a transfer to a different store. Very occasionally, employees may be immune to transfer after fewer than half-dozen months due to hardship or special circumstances.

What Are Coachings and How Long Exercise They Stay on Your Tape?

At Walmart, a coaching is basically an case of a superior having to speak to you verbally or give you a written warning regarding your performance. This tin happen due to tardiness, behavior, prophylactic issues, or other concerns. Generally, an employee'due south first coaching is a discussion, but those that follow may exist either written or in-person.

Coachings typically stay on an employee's record for ane year. If an employee receives iv coachings, they are often terminated.

Can You lot Switch Departments at Walmart?

Some people discover it easy to transfer to open positions in other departments, while others find it difficult. Factors similar your relationship with your manager and other higher-ups, whether or non yous have coachings on your tape, and what sorts of positions are currently bachelor may impact the likelihood of a asking to switch departments being granted.

How Long Do You Have to Work at Walmart to Get a Raise?

Employees are not guaranteed raises, but employee operation is ordinarily evaluated after 3 months, then once more every six months. When employees do get raises, it usually happens at or later on to 1 of these evaluations. Employees with coachings on their records are less likely to receive raises.

What Does Walmart Do Right?

Walmart does give to various charities, which are oftentimes run and funded by employees. They besides do a lot of recycling. Where Walmart does one good matter, however, it'south always at the expense of something or someone else. That's how they thrive. They practise give pretty loftier yearly raises to those who are willing to sell their soul to achieve them.

They besides offering a consequent paycheck. It may vary in hours, but they do offer money for pretty mindless labor. If your sanity can handle all of what I've detailed in a higher place, then have at it. I'd rather be homeless and eating out of a dumpster than work in that location again, but that'southward merely my personal preference.

Walmarts low prices are a good thing, but they come at the expense of suppliers, employees, and every other retailer in the community.

So, Is Walmart a Bad Place to Work and Store?

Admittedly. Shop at Aldis or at a wonderful site called Amazon.com. It has pretty much everything nether the sun, and they deliver. "Amazing" and "Amazon" even have some letters in mutual.

Gauge for yourself, but know that I pray for you if you accept applied at Walmart and wish to work there. You lot will not find whatsoever happiness, fulfillment, or success in that location. It is a pathway that ends in frustration, disappointment, and shame, and these are not great feelings. And then, don't practise it! Exercise some good for the globe. Work for a reputable company that treats its employees right. Such places do exist. You can exercise this!

Reading your article gave me the impression that you're very self-entitled and feel that managers shouldn't pop upwardly out of nowhere and boss y'all around. Fact is; they do and thats what they are hired for specifically. Y'all also try to demean walmart for using psychological tactics to sell their products but the reality is that literally every unmarried company does that.... even Aldi's and Amazon. You trying to bash the new co-manager was despicable as you slammed someone new coming in telling you what your JOB is for the solar day and instead of saying "yep sure" you go down his pharynx ridiculing him for doing his task. Reading this whole matter just gave me the impression that you lot're the kind of person to shit on a police officer giving y'all a ticket for going 80 in a 50 and give him a lecture on why law and law enforcers are just a part of a system that doesnt use to your snowflake mentality.

EF'ED OVER on May 22, 2019:

Goose egg but facts and i can personnaly attest to that. I worked for Walmart in the for 1 1/2 yrs. Later beingness there for 6 months, i was awarded the *Happy to Aid* pin. I was told that i was the starting time and ONLY person in the history of the store (in the deli dept) to recieve that pin. Yous would think that a good thing, correct? Non so much. Some of the ladies i worked with had been at that place 13, xiv, xv yrs and never received a pin. Not my fault... i EARNED the pin through all my hard work, a pleasant attitude towards customers and willingness to help all my customers to the best of my ability. Anyway, the pivot became a problem for me after some time because the ladies would give me a hard time about it. (I forgot to mention that, at my walmart there is a huge language barrier. Almost everyone, employees and customers speak Spanish or very broken English). And then, i had to overcome that to begin with. Direction would always ask for more, more popcorn craven, more than rotisserie craven, more than fried chicken. Cooking didnt stop until 7pm and craven ovens run until 8pm. We would always do our best to produce the results management wanted. And so once they got what they asked for, tthey would demand more from us. Somewhen, people were calling in here and in that location (something that rarely ever happened) because we were all exhausted. So of course, decreased manpower = decreased Production. To a reasonable person that would exist common sence. Non FOR WALMART MANAGEMENT... it got to the point that, if we saw a member of Management coming towards the deli, we already knew that we were going to get yelled at for something and belittled, because that is the Simply time they would come up back there. If that isnt bad enough, it was almost always done right in front of our customers. Null we ever did in the cafeteria was right according to Management. Not one time did any if them come up back to tell usa, Adept job guys, or keep upwards the proficient work or they couldnt fifty-fifty strength a simple "Thank Yous" out of their ridiculing oral fissure. So over time it was taking a serious toll on me, mentally, physically, emotionally. My self confidence plummeted, I regularly started doubting myself and my power to perform my chore to the best of my ability. I decided to face my dept director about everything and was told information technology would be taken care of. That manager transfered so we got a new one. Of course, my complaint was swept under the rug because everything was notwithstanding the aforementioned. I waited for a while to meet if anyone was going to address my complaint. My work conditions but grew more than hostile. Then i broke downward and talked to the new dept managing director. Told her everything and that my working condition are very hostile and i couldn't and didnt want to exist in that location. She told me dont cry and non to worry. She knows im am excellent worker and she would take care of it. She took care of information technology alright, two weeks after, i came dorsum from my dejeuner and she asked to to follow her to the dorsum function. On the way back i was thinking, oh thank goodness, she actually handeled it like she promised. Got to the office and i was greeted by an Assistant Manager from a different store and our LP. The AM asked me to sit down while the LP airtight the door behind me. Long story short. I was defendant of shoplifting from the company. I was told they did an investigation and they accept all the proof against me. I asked when this was supposed to have happened, when they told me the date, i started laughing and telling them haha, Thats funny. Why am i hither for real? And they told me again and that they were serious. I couldnt believe it, so i asked for the date again to make sure i heard them correct. So they told me. (I forgot to annotation it higher up simply, 4/28/nineteen is when i fabricated my complaint to my DM.) First time yous did it was 4/28/19. I asked to run across their proof and was denied. They continually tried to pressure me into albeit guilt. I told them i didnt do anything and im not going to admit to anything i didnt exercise. I was called a lier, accused of existence a theif and subsequently proclaiming my innocence no matter what they threatened or promised with, they finally told me i was existence terminated immediately for shoplifting from the store. Asked for my writtrn argument and i wrote it. Then nosotros were all sitting there quite andbi finally asked "what are nosotros doing? Are we done now? LP guy told me "We are waiting on the cops to get here". I accept never NEVER been in trouble with the law or whatever where ive worked. My criminal tape is spotless, so is my work tape, no write upwards or coachings, my performance evals were always good, and im non gulity of their accusations. There was just 1 reason why i was terminated and 1 reason only. RETALIATION . Im fighting this all the way. I at present have an abort record and criminal charges on my record now. Ive been told i at present have PTSD because of all this. I refuse to but lay down and let them destroy my life. They will regret the quack choices accusations and actions they've made against me.

DONT Autumn INTO THE Aforementioned NIGHTMARE THAT Then MANY OTHERS Take. WE ARE HEAR TO WARN Yous PLZ LISTEN TO US.

Glad I found this folio I need to rant a little bit about Walmart considering WOW was I lied to. I started working at Walmart back in April. I decided to do this considering a family member recommended it and honestly, its the just other reason why this family unit member still works hither. I got ill in June with a common cold, so I called off so I could get over this considering I'm non comfortable touching people's nutrient while beingness sick, and who wants to piece of work when their non feeling well enough....I knew I wasn't past my xc days, only I seriously felt really Ill. Anyways...this lovely cold that I had then quickly became an ear infection. I went to the dr. they prescribe me with a useless antibiotic for 5 days I started to get better, just and so subsequently 5 days the infection came back. I tried to stick it out at work, but the pain was unbearable, and I couldn't hear for anything. Had to leave work early....And then I left work went to the doc over again, they gave me a proficient antibiotic, and it kicked it's donkey and I got a doc note and my manager takes care of it then I tin return dorsum to work. Sooo fast forward to August I get sick AGAIN, but this time information technology kept me out for about half-dozen days significant I got vi occurrences. This is By my 90 days, listen you, AND I brought a doctors notation for this as well and showed my note to my manager, who said that he'd take care of information technology, and to my noesis, I was good. Fast forward to September... I get called back to the role, and I'grand shown that I have seven.5 occurrences huh? and they decided to "let me go" because of this. First of all...I...was by my 90 days, and to my noesis, that's not enough occurrences to permit me to exist fired? and the half dozen occurrences out of the 7 in half should take been eliminated because I brought a medico note proving that I was sick, at least that'due south what I was told by my director, that he would "take care of it" Also the manager who fired me basically told me that doctors notes don't matter??? then. . . WHY was I told IN orientation, that if I'm gone for more than iv days that I would accept to provide a doctors note???? and that'southward AFTER y'all've been there for ninety days??? I was hired in April my 90 days so...I was past my 90 days in July so that means that even at seven.five occurrences I shouldn't have been let become and I brought doctor notes so this should accept NEVER happened. SOOOOOOO lets get to the next 24-hour interval after I'one thousand fired, they call me up considering they realized they made a fault and needless to say I'k dorsum at wallyworld. I was really on the fence about coming back, just I do relish the people I work with.

We are all humans and we all have choices. If you dont like where you work, then motility along and search for another job.

I've been with Walmart several years and held several positions. I love where I work, when and if I kickoff not to like it then information technology's time to go.

And so cease bickering, suck it up and find some other job.

You lot paint a clear picture here , cutting & dry if you will . It doesnt matter about the 100 or so folks that piece of work at that place & are happy & will disagree with y'all & will stick upwards for the Large Blue Devil . Your ever gonna have that . They are part of a brown nosing click that gets all the best paying jobs & move back & fourth around the identify similar a jack rabbit . You still have the rest of the miserable other worker that will sole heartedly concur with you !! Its all politics , favortism , gossip , narks , back stabbers & ability pushers . Funny how its just a grocery shop & you lot get all that !! Dont forget almost all the theft that is at the expense of the employees that work at that place besides . Lastly , most of the folks that stick up for that place are lifers & have no where else to go .The large blue devil , dont e'er forget that .

...everything said hither is true. I've worked at wal-Mart for 7 years and it has become obvious that the hunt is on for new employees that can laissez passer the background bank check and the drug examination.

The burnout rate is 3-v years

And everyone should have short turn goals no matter where they work.

The problem I run into, and it's serious, is the thieves.

They could possibly bring Wal-mart downwardly

Walmart is discusting I don't see why people shop there management evil liars and hipocrits NOT the cheapest in many towns cities. many items you can find cheaper elsewhere where they employees are happy. Management care for employees as subhuman they are souless emm is a walmart suckup they don't care almost yous they take meetings of how to go rid of you even if you're skilful to salve money!!! Management run in clicks they are no good they care for their factory workers as subhuman slaves they are EVIL

Cease COMPLAINING AND Exist MORE GRATEFUL! Yous have to earn what you lot want in life! Nothing is complimentary..... STOP Beingness LAZY!

Orion-71 on May 09, 2014:

These and other comments left regarding Wal-Mart have helped me decide whether to say with them. I'm starting work presently as an Overnight Stocker, and realize now that it has no task security.

I've recently had to quit a job at another more reputable visitor under similar circumstances, where management was trying to discover some reason to fire me or force me to quit. They started with a hostile work environment for several months, when that didn't work, they began to single me out for every mistake I fabricated, regardless that my coworker was just as guilty. Simply because of his exceedingly practiced rapport with my dominate, my dominate had no intention of firing him.

So terrible managers are everywhere y'all go. That's the real trouble. They are terrible considering they employ their potency to brand emotionally based decisions. Like you said, if they are stressed out, they deliberately make other employees feel the aforementioned or worse. They are similar bad "cops". They become off on their dominance, they derive satisfaction from it. But different constabulary, they are also judge, jury and executioner.

I actually overheard two managers talking effectually me and other customers early in the morn, joking virtually how easy it will be just to hire some new college student for something, and pay them minimum wage. When you walk by a manager, they don't acknowledge your presence, they are reluctant to even move out of your way (they want YOU to acknowledge THEM). Which is hilariously hypocritical given their "ten foot" rule towards customers.

I've worked at walmart on overnights as a stocker/IMS/cashier and let me tell you, they practically forced me to throw freight (lone) in HBA/cosmetics my ENTIRE PREGNANCY. WHEN I WAS 9 MONTHS PREGNANT I WAS STILL FORCED TO Elevator PALLETS AND THROW 30-50 POUND BOXES. ALONE. I brought a doctors note stating hey, I can't lift more than than 25 and they told me they'd have to let me become. Like wtf. Fuck them.

Wow Walmart sounds like a terrible place. Glad nosotros don't have one in the Uk. I agree nearly Amazon. Never had whatsoever problems with them.

AJ Long from Pennsylvania on March 10, 2013:

Lamentable y'all had to endure that. Thanks for sharing.

Annette Hendley from London, United Kingdom on March 09, 2013:

Wow. I don't alive in the The states, but Walmart sounds real evil. Amazon is bully, I concur with you there. Do almost of my shopping there.

Carrie Lee Night from Northeast United States on March 05, 2013:

Arghness: Thank you for sounding off on a very fustrating industry :) Only understand that near high volume retail chains have the same agenda and protocol (doesn't make information technology right). I work for a big retailer and I can say that they rent generally part timers to avert paying benefits. Too when a person quits they don't replace them, leaving less people to do more back breaking work. Its not a fair world, just it is work and I appreciate the money. Thanks for taking the fourth dimension to write an honest article, hope you are meant for something great :)

Yves on March 04, 2013:

Companies have to market their stores well; it would be absurd for them not to. Only I hear you in that all lower level jobs are tough, peculiarly for idealists who long for something better. But getting a amend task takes time and patience.

For example, I know someone who works at Walmart. He'southward had two middle surgeries, for which Walmart paid a great percentage; he literally paid just a pittance. He started out equally a cashier (which he hated), merely stuck it out until he could work in inventory (which he enjoys). He is a lead worker and is making near $16 an hour. Walmart held his position even though he was out for a long time during his surgery and recovery.

As for Greeters offering carts, well... nigh of them don't. And if they did, I wouldn't mind. If I need it, not bad, and if I don't, I just say "No thank yous."

You may decide not to postal service this comment, and that's OK with me, but I felt compelled to betoken out that your mental attitude isn't great, and it is that which makes managers bristle; it's as well the best way to Not get a promotion or a raise - in whatsoever company.

If you lot have a mental disease, then that explains why you lot may take a trend to feel such great frustration on the job. It sounds like yous are a very difficult worker. Perhaps having a job where y'all could mostly be by yourself, without having to deal with micro-managers, or managers catamenia, would be meliorate for you. I know what it's similar to work "dumb" jobs. It'south the pits, but it'south "the pits" everywhere, not only Walmart.

Kelley Marks from Sacramento, California on March 03, 2013:

This is a very informative article - you should get many hits on this one. As for jobs in retail, many years ago I worked at K-Mart - but not for long, and I vowed never go back. Perhaps Wal-Mart is worse. Who tin say? Every bit far as I tin can tell, retail jobs, in general, are crap. As for the Wal-Mart healthcare plan, I'm non surprised information technology'due south essentially worthless. Later!

Aldene Fredenburg from Southwestern New Hampshire on February 28, 2013:

I've idea for years that employers who offer benefits to full-fourth dimension employees should be required to prorate those benefits for part-time employees: someone who works 20 hours should become 50 percent of the benefits of a full-fourth dimension worker, including vacation and holiday fourth dimension, bonuses, and payment into a public healthcare plan. That would finish employers like Walmart from messing with people'south work status.

vinayak1000 from Minneapolis on February 28, 2013:

I've been hearing quite a few stories about how Wal-Mart treats its employees badly. My mom doesn't shop their anymore considering of this.

Additionally, I don't either just that's mostly because the shopping experience doesn't match upward to Target, Best Purchase (for shiny stuff of course), etc.

Thank you for sharing hither, Arghness.

catgypsy from the Due south on February 27, 2013:

Very honest hub! It'south a shame that people have to piece of work under those atmospheric condition. I don't arraign y'all for getting fed up. I've personally never liked Walmart, but have shopped in that location. I don't anymore because I experience their prices are not as low every bit they used to exist and the quality of a lot of the products is terrible. I'grand with y'all...give me Amazon any day!
